▪︎ What is an Artist-Run Space?

An Artist-Run Space is an autonomous art platform organized and managed by artists themselves. These spaces go beyond the conventional function of exhibiting artworks—they serve as platforms for creative experimentation, dialogue with others, and the exploration of relationships with society. Characterized by their flexibility and independence from institutional systems and art markets, artist-run spaces open up multilayered possibilities for artistic expression.

▪︎ About Derahajiri

Derahajiri is an artist-run space located in the Haji-no-Sato area of Fujiidera City, Osaka Prefecture. Based in a repurposed section of Satoniwa-no-Hako, a renovated traditional Japanese house turned collective shop, the space engages with the local environment and everyday life, offering a place for both artistic practice and communal sharing.

The name “Derahajiri” is a coined term combining “Dera” from Fujiidera and “Haji” from Haji-no-Sato, layered with the nuance of “reconstruction.” The space is grounded in a continuous effort to revisit, untangle, and reweave the fabric of local climate, memory, and human relationships from new entry points.

▪︎ Background of Its Establishment

The space was founded in 2021 by artist Moeka Shimoura (@moekashimoura) as part of her effort to sustain her own artistic practice. It emerged from a recognition of the need to balance a place for both learning and presenting, and to cultivate a foundation for dialogue through art appreciation.

Rather than focusing solely on finished works or outcomes, Derahajiri values the fluctuations that arise in the creative process and the insights that emerge through relationships with others. It seeks to build a foundation where artistic expression can naturally take root within everyday life and relationships, layer by layer, over time.

Inviting artists, curators, and researchers from Japan and abroad, the space organizes exhibitions, artist residencies, and research-based programs.

Programs include tea gatherings, neighborhood walks, talk sessions, study groups, and workshops—responding closely to the cultural and environmental context of the area.

Derahajiri aims to be a space of experimentation and continuity for artists, and a site of cultural encounters and dialogue for the local community.

By engaging with practitioners not only in the Haji-no-Sato area and within the arts, but also across diverse regions and disciplines, the space seeks to reexamine the intersection between art-making and everyday living. One of its core hopes is also to remain an open, welcoming space—serving, at times, as a safety net that maintains a vital connection to society for those who need it.

▪︎アーティスト・ラン・スペースとは

アーティスト・ラン・スペース（Artist-Run Space）とは、アーティスト自身が企画・運営する、自律的な芸術活動の拠点です。作品発表にとどまらず、創作の実験や他者との対話、社会との関係性を探るプラットフォームとしても機能します。制度や市場に依存しない柔軟なあり方を通して、表現の可能性を多層的に切り拓いていくことが特徴です。

▪︎デラハジリとは

デラハジリは、大阪府藤井寺市・土師ノ里（はじのさと）エリアに位置するアーティスト・ラン・スペースです。古民家を改装した集合型ショップ「里庭の箱」の一角を拠点に、地域の風土や日常に寄り添いながら、表現の実践と共有の場として活動しています。

スペース名「デラハジリ」は、「藤井寺（デラ）」と「土師ノ里（ハジ）」という地名に、「再構成（Reconstructed）」の語感を重ねた造語です。風土と記憶、人と人との関係の織り目を見つめ直し、ほどき、別の糸口から結び直していくような、再構築の試みを重ねています。

▪︎設立の背景

このスペースは、アーティスト・下浦萌香（ @moekashimoura ）が自身の創作活動を持続可能にするため、「学びと発表の場」、そして「鑑賞を通じた対話の土壌をつくること」の両立が必要だと考え、2021年に立ち上げました。

ここでは、完成された作品や成果だけでなく、制作の過程で生まれる揺らぎや、他者との関わりの中で立ち上がる気づきを大切にしています。表現が日常と地続きの環境のなかで根づいていくこと、そうした時間や関係性を支える土台を、この場を通して積み重ねています。

・アートプログラムの開催（年数回）
国内外のアーティストやキュレーター、リサーチャーなど、アートの実践者を招聘し、展示や滞在制作、リサーチベースのプログラムを実施しています。

・土地の文脈に呼応した継続的な企画の展開
お茶会、まち歩き、トークセッション、勉強会、ワークショップなどの企画・運営。

デラハジリは、アーティストにとっては実験と継続のための場であり、地域にとっては文化的な出会いや対話の起点となることを目指しています。

土師ノ里エリアや芸術領域にとどまらず、他地域や異分野の実践者との協働・接続を通じて、「表現すること」と「生きること」が交差する地点を問い直していくこと。そして、時には誰かにとっての“セーフティネット”として、社会とのつながりを保ち続けられる、ひらかれた場であることも、大切な願いのひとつです。
